The Plumbing Vent Line

The plumbing vent line is a miniscule pipe, which is nearly hidden, but makes a small appearance where it sticks up a couple of inches from the roof of your home. The air vent system constantly prevents dangerous pressure changes from occurring in the pipe system. However, if the vent pipe should get clogged by dead animals, ice, snow, or leaves, it is unable to perform its job. Should this happens, the air fails to equalize in the system and the householder will begin to hear a strange gurgling sound in his drains, which actually indicates that siphoning is taking place as water is pulled out of the traps. In the event that a home owner hears this sound, he must call a plumber to clean out the vent line, as the entrance of sewer gas can be dangerous.
